PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING

MINUTES APRIL 20, 2010

 

 

Attendance: Richard & Sandi Hill ( co-chairs ), Barb Gust (secretary), Lynn Halkett ( treasurer), Sharon Watkin ( S.P.C ), Brenda Fair ( S.P.C), Dave Street ( Principal), Katie Sims, Ed & Maureen Tremblay, Lorraine Szasz, Patrice Mauriks, Melody Smythies, Michele Bodger, Nikki MacCallum

 

Welcome by Richard and meeting called to order at 7:05pm

 

Adoption of agenda, approved and accepted as presented

Adoption of minutes from March 16th:  please note amendment of amount of outstanding bursary of $1200 should read $1250. Minutes accepted and approved.

 

Presentation to P.A.C by Katie Sims, LSS graduate of 2007 on the Leadership B.C program, a community project which focuses on personal growth, a team vision which involves the community. Her group will be presenting a half day conference geared towards the grade 12’s, including 4 workshops, included is a presentation to entire school by Olympic rower Mike Lewis all to take place on Tuesday April 27th.

 

Administrator’s Report: Bamfield trip was a great success this year. Mr. Tohana again doing the Leadership Mentoring Program with the grade 7’s from North Oyster Elementary School and a group of high school students during April and May. Community Links will be providing a bus for the students to travel back and forth between schools.

Report cards will be sent home on April 21st and teacher interviews will be Thursday April 22nd.

Enrollment numbers are at 757 with projected numbers for next fall at 704 with exchange students 719.

Numbers for Satisfaction survey were 80% of grades 10 to 12 completing the survey and 22% of parents responded.

Signage is up on portable 3 and reads “ Ladysmith Youth Community Services Centre”

with the logo’s of the sponsors displayed as well.

The construction project is making good progress. So far for next year there are only 7 or 8 students signed for the course and it needs at least 16 for it to run. May look at other options to attract students such as offering to students between 17 and 19 years of age who have not graduated can sign up to earn construction level 1 which is 16 credits plus 4 for work experience.

Holly Knox and students have been providing food on Monday, Wednesday’s and Thursday for L.A.F.F

MULAN is set to run May 6,7 and 8 and 13,14 and 15th. May 1st being a sneak preview at The Heather Brawner Scholarship fundraiser.

Petition to Reinstate All Charitable Gaming Grants in British Columbia

Petition Summary and Background

Provincial Cuts to Charitable Gaming Grants for 2009-2010

To Premier Gordon Campbell, Minister Rich Coleman and

the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia:

We the undersigned are deeply concerned with the cuts to Gaming Grants in the province of British Columbia and how it will affect our Communities.

 

 

This is part of the preamble to an online petition that has been instituted on behalf of all Organizations affected by the budget cuts to the gaming grants of 2009 – 2010.  It is our hope that when the budget is tabled in March after the Olympics we will not be targeted again.

 

 

Our hope is that each Association will forward the petition link to each of its members with a request that they forward the link to their members and supporters as well.
